Symptoms
Rattle or click from the front of the engine, more pronounced at idle and most obvious on a cold start.
The fix, step by step
- LTB00474 calls for two new tensioners (LR051008) and two tensioner levers (LR051013).
- The revised levers have a steel insert, and Land Rover's follow-up note SSM71893 warns that old and new parts must never be mixed.
- Many independents fit the full chain kit with guides while the engine is open.
- The engine must be locked at the correct position with the 5.0 V8 timing tools, and the tensioners reset on reassembly.
- Do the water pump and crossover pipes at the same time.
Tools & part numbers
- 5.0 V8 timing tool set, crank pulley remover/installer, torque wrench
- tensioners LR051008 ×2, levers LR051013 ×2 (per LTB00474), cam cover gaskets
