TDV6 timing belt and water pump

DIFFICULTY 4 / 5TIME A full dayCOST Parts plus significant labor

Symptoms

Due on age or mileage, no paperwork, or a weeping water pump. PistonHeads also notes the oil-pump casing that the timing-belt tensioner bolts to can snap off.

The fix, step by step

  1. PistonHeads advises replacing the belt, tensioner, small pulleys and water pump within six years or 60,000 miles.
  2. Lock the engine with the correct timing tools before removing the old belt, fit the full kit and pump, and turn the engine by hand before starting.
  3. Note there are separate Euro 3 and Euro 4 belt kits for the 2.7, so match the kit to your engine.
