Ride height sensor replacement

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1 hour plus calibrationCOST Price of the sensor

Symptoms

Uneven ride height, suspension warning lights, or a truck that won't hold the height it's asked for. Height-sensor faults are one of the electrical causes of air-suspension trouble.

The fix, step by step

  1. Each corner has its own sensor linked to a suspension arm.
  2. Unplug it, unbolt the sensor and its link, fit the new one and check the arm moves freely.
  3. Repair a corroded plug with the harness repair kit rather than living with it.
  4. The suspension usually needs calibrating after a sensor is replaced; Gap's IIDTool offers an individual sensor calibration that doesn't need a level floor.
