Symptoms
Violent front-end shake after a bump, especially on lifted trucks; or a shake you feel in the truck but not the steering wheel.
The fix, step by step
- Inspect tie-rod ends, the drag link, knuckle preload and the steering box mounts first.
- Corsetti fits an Old Man Emu steering damper to every FJ60, lifted or not.
- Expect the factory stabilizer to be hard to remove without an air tool.
- If the wheel is calm but the truck still shakes, the driveshaft probably needs balancing, which is common past 200,000 miles.
