Fabricate rust repairs

DIFFICULTY 5 / 5TIME Days to weeksCOST Parts plus a lot of labor

Symptoms

Bubbling at the drip rails, cowl, rockers and wheel arches, or soft frame rails and body mounts.

The fix, step by step

  1. Because complete FJ55 panels generally don't exist, repairs mean cutting out rot and either fitting the few repair sections sold (rockers, lower-fender patches) or forming patches by hand, then welding, seam-sealing and protecting the area.
  2. Fix structural metal (frame rails and body mounts) before cosmetic panels, and get a professional opinion on the frame first.
