Rear door won't latch or open (recalls 21V-353 and 24V-659)

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME Dealer visitCOST Free under recall

Symptoms

A rear door that looks shut but isn't fully latched, or one that won't open from inside.

The fix, step by step

  1. Recall 21V-353 replaced the rear door latches on about 17,800 2019–2021 G 550s and G 63s.
  2. Recall 24V-659 then covered 2019–2023 trucks that had received a replacement latch, either in service or under the first recall, and replaced the right-rear latch again.
  3. A truck fixed under 21V-353 may still need the 24V-659 remedy.
  4. Check the VIN for both, and work every rear door from inside and outside on the test drive.
