Diff locks fail, ESP/ABS warnings (recall 20V-090)

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME Minutes to check. Dealer visit for the fix.COST Free under recall

Symptoms

A locker that won't engage or report its status, often with ESP and ABS switching off and warnings on the dash. On affected trucks, a resistor in the differential-locking module can interrupt communication between the control unit and the lock actuator.

The fix, step by step

  1. NHTSA recall 20V-090 covers about 6,300 2019–2020 G 550s and AMG G 63s.
  2. Dealers inspect the differential-locking modules and replace them as needed for free.
  3. Check the VIN, then test every lock on loose ground after the repair.
  4. If a lock still misbehaves on a truck that's had the recall done, have it diagnosed with XENTRY before replacing anything.
