Rear shock reservoir corrosion (Bilstein, HOSS 2.0)

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1–2 hours to replace a pairCOST Free under recall 25V-025 on eligible trucks

Symptoms

Rusty or swollen reservoir bodies on the rear shocks, a reservoir hanging by its hose, oil on the shock body, or a bouncy rear end.

The fix, step by step

  1. Check the VIN first: Ford's remedy for 2021–24 Badlands and Sasquatch trucks built from September 23, 2020 to July 23, 2024 is free rear shock replacement (Ford campaign 25S01; owner letters went out in August 2025).
  2. On an out-of-scope or modified truck, support the axle on a jack, unbolt the upper and lower shock mounts and the reservoir clamp, fit the new shocks, and torque at ride height.
  3. Rinse road salt off the reservoirs in winter.
