Fluids, capacities & service intervals
Every 60 is at least 45 years old, and most have had several owners and at least one hard life. Assume every fluid is old, every grease point is dry and every rubber part has hardened. We couldn't find a factory manual for the 60 online. The capacities below come from Penrite's lookup for the Australian G60 (P engine, 1968–1980) and are approximate, so check grades in a Nissan workshop manual and fill to the level plug.
| ITEM | SPEC / CAPACITY | INTERVAL | NOTES & PARTS |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil & filter | About 5.3 L service refill (Penrite lookup, G60; it doesn't say whether that includes the filter) · confirm grade and filter type in manual | Baseline now | Check for sludge on the first change and look for leaks at the rocker cover and sump gaskets, which are catalogued and cheap.Engine kit gasket set, 1967 Patrol 4.0L · RockAuto ↗ |
| Spark plugs, points & distributor | Six plugs; check the distributor, coil and leads | Replace now | Some trucks have a water-protected distributor, and SNLC calls a NOS one very hard to find. Keep the original if it works.Spark plugs, 1967 Patrol 4.0L · RockAuto ↗ |
| Carburettor & fuel system | Single-barrel Hitachi carburettor; glass sediment bowls | Inspect now; rebuild if leaking | Old fuel and rusty tanks cause most running faults. Several trucks now have electric pumps added; check the wiring and fuse.Fuel & air parts, 1967 Patrol 4.0L · RockAuto ↗ |
| Coolant & hoses | Fresh coolant; new top and bottom hoses | Flush now | Old radiators clog. SNLC had his radiator rebuilt during the restoration.Radiator hose, 1967 Patrol 4.0L · RockAuto ↗Coolant, 1967 Patrol 4.0L · RockAuto ↗ |
| Gearbox, transfer case & PTO box | Gear oil · gearbox about 2.0–2.3 L, transfer case about 3.4 L (Penrite lookup, G60) · confirm grade and pto-box capacity in manual | Baseline now | Check the transfer output seals while you're there. A leaking rear seal ruins the transmission-mounted handbrake.1967 Nissan Patrol 4.0L catalog · RockAuto ↗ |
| Front & rear differentials | Hypoid gear oil confirm grade in manual · front about 1.2 L, rear about 1.0–2.0 L depending on axle (Penrite lookup, G60) | Baseline now | US trucks have a C216 rear axle; heavy-duty trucks an H260.1967 Nissan Patrol 4.0L catalog · RockAuto ↗ |
| Front swivels (knuckles) & wheel bearings | Inspect knuckle balls and seals; repack wheel bearings | Inspect now | Pitted knuckle balls won't hold a seal.1967 Nissan Patrol 4.0L catalog · RockAuto ↗ |
| Brake fluid & drums | Fluid per the master-cylinder cap confirm in manual | Flush now | Check every wheel cylinder and the master cylinder bore. Make sure all four drums actually brake.Drum brake hardware kit, 1967 Patrol 4.0L · RockAuto ↗Brake bleeder screw, 1967 Patrol 4.0L · RockAuto ↗ |
| Handbrake band & drum | Transmission-mounted drum with a band; three adjustments | Inspect and adjust now | If it's oily, fix the transfer seal first, then clean or reline.1967 Nissan Patrol 4.0L catalog · RockAuto ↗ |
