Leaf springs and hangers

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME ≈ A day per axleCOST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

Sagging, a harsh ride, home-made hangers, or cracked leaves.

The fix, step by step

  1. SNLC fitted Alcan leaf springs with a 2-inch lift to his 1964 and matched them to the stock eye-to-eye length (48.5 in on the rear of a 1977 Patrol ute).
  2. He replaced home-made shackle hangers with NOS Nissan parts from an Australian supplier.
  3. Support the chassis, swap one axle at a time, fit new bushes and U-bolts, and keep the hangers in their stock locations if you're restoring.

Tools & part numbers
