DIY repair · Isuzu Trooper (second generation)

Set ride height at the torsion bars, or fit a mild lift

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME An hour, plus an alignmentCOST Free to adjust; a Pedders kit costs more

Symptoms

Sagging front end, uneven side-to-side height, or room needed for bigger tires.

The fix, step by step

  1. Measure both sides from hub center to fender lip.
  2. Turn the torsion-bar adjuster bolts evenly, a little at a time, and settle the suspension between measurements.
  3. Edmunds owners note that adjusting one side changes the other, and that the bars may need re-indexing if you run out of adjustment.
  4. Don't crank the bars for lift: a higher, stiffer front end makes this tall truck tippier.
  5. For real height, Pedders sells a kit of about 50 mm with new torsion bars, coils and shocks; the Gen 2 has two bar lengths, so check yours.
  6. Get an alignment afterwards.
