Fix a flashing TOD light

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME An hour or twoCOST One owner was quoted about $700 for front and rear sensors

Symptoms

The TOD light flashes, the truck shudders or 4WD Auto stops working.

The fix, step by step

  1. Start simple.
  2. Edmunds owners suggest cycling into 4L and back, pulling and refitting the TOD fuse, or disconnecting the battery to reset the computer.
  3. Then wash the underside, because packed snow and ice can upset the sensors.
  4. If the light comes back, check the wiring and connectors at the front and rear driveshaft speed sensors on the transfer case, and replace a faulty sensor.

Tools & part numbers

  • Multimeter
  • socket set
