DIY repair · Isuzu Trooper (second generation)

Front CV axles and boots

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME Half a day per sideCOST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

Torn boots, grease on the inside of the wheel, or clicking on full lock.

The fix, step by step

  1. Support the truck, pull the wheel and hub, separate the knuckle as the manual describes, and pull the axle from the differential.
  2. A complete replacement axle is usually quicker than a reboot.
  3. Unload the torsion bars first if the job needs it, and recheck ride height and alignment afterwards.
