Symptoms
A metallic rattle or knock from the front of the engine at idle, often mistaken for timing chain; a louder-than-normal whine means dry snout bearings.
The fix, step by step
- Rule out the timing chain first with a cold-start listen and a scan for cam-timing codes.
- Then remove the supercharger snout, replace the spring-type isolator or coupler and, if they're noisy, the snout bearings, and reassemble with a new gasket.
- One supercharger rebuilder says the stock spring-type isolator usually starts failing from around 50,000 miles.
- Check isolator/coupler fitment for your engine's build year before ordering.
