Symptoms
Pink crust or drips around the water pump weep hole at the front of the engine. It's commonly reported on 2008 trucks.
The fix, step by step
- Drain the coolant and do the usual front-of-engine teardown to reach the pump.
- Unbolt the pump, clean the mating surface and fit the new pump with its gasket.
- Refill and bleed the system.
- Before you start, confirm the leak is really the pump and not the valley leak.
- One owner pulled the front of the engine apart only to find the pump dry and the coolant coming from the back of the engine.
