Symptoms
A sudden no-crank, usually with no warning. The failure is typically in the solenoid, the high-current relay built onto the back of the starter.
The fix, step by step
- Disconnect the battery, gain access to the starter, unplug and unbolt it, and fit the replacement.
- Some owners do it proactively at high mileage instead of waiting to get stranded.
Tools & part numbers
- Metric sockets
- long extensions
- battery terminal wrench
- new or reman starter
