Fit 235/85R16s and set the steering stops

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME An hour plus tyre fittingCOST Tyres plus fitting

Symptoms

Tyres touching the frame at full lock after fitting larger or wider tyres.

The fix, step by step

  1. 235/85R16 is the most-recommended size on the Rovers North forum, close to (but a little wider than) the factory 7.50x16 option.
  2. If the tyres touch the chassis at full lock, wind out the steering stop bolts on the swivel housings until there's clearance.
  3. Expect a slightly bigger turning circle.
