Symptoms
Clonk or jerk on take-off and gear changes, visible cracks or splits in the rear propshaft's rubber 'doughnut' coupler.
The fix, step by step
- Support the prop, unbolt it from the coupler and the coupler from the output flange, fit a new coupler (owners recommend original-equipment quality) with new nuts and bolts, and torque up.
- Some owners instead convert to a Defender-style prop and flange with a conventional UJ to remove the backlash.
Tools & part numbers
- Spanners and sockets, torque wrench
- rubber propshaft coupler, nuts and bolts
