Inboard disc brake service

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME ≈ A day for all fourCOST Genuine pad kits about $80–84 and discs about $87 each at Nengun (October 2026), plus labor

Symptoms

Grinding, a pull under braking, a soft pedal, or simply no records. All four brakes are ventilated discs mounted inboard, so they sit under the truck rather than behind the wheels, and they're easy to neglect. One BaT seller listed brake service among recent work.

The fix, step by step

  1. Support the truck securely on stands rated for its weight and work from underneath.
  2. At each brake, check pad thickness, disc condition, hoses and caliper seals.
  3. Replace pads and discs as a set per axle, clean the pad contact points, then bleed the system with fresh fluid.
  4. Front and rear parts carry different Toyota part numbers, so order by axle, and use the factory manual for torque values.
