Hub-reduction and differential gear oil

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME Half a dayCOST Gear oil plus your time

Symptoms

No records, weeping seals at the hub housings or diffs, or noise from the driveline.

The fix, step by step

  1. Drain and refill both differentials, the transfer case and all four hub-reduction housings with the oils specified in the factory manual.
  2. One BaT seller had the differentials serviced with fresh fluid before sale.
  3. Look for metal on the drain plugs and leaking seals while you're there.
