Stop dust getting past the airbox (1VD V8)

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME ≈ 15 minutes to checkCOST Free to check; an aftermarket airbox costs more

Symptoms

Red dust on the clean side of the filter, MAF sensor faults, limp mode in the middle of a dusty trip, or a noisy turbo.

The fix, step by step

  1. Unclip the airbox lid and inspect the downstream side of the filter.
  2. Some mechanics grease the factory seal and some owners make their own seals from silicone and D-rubber, but Unsealed's preferred fix is an aftermarket airbox that seals the intake properly.
  3. If you find dust, clean the MAF sensor and check the turbo for shaft play.
