Flush the AHC fluid

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1–2 hoursCOST Toyota AHC fluid; one member priced it at about $30–35 a gallon

Symptoms

Old, dark fluid, a truck that's slow to level, or a lift via the height-sensor links that has left the reservoir low.

The fix, step by step

  1. Park on level ground with the suspension in N, engine off.
  2. Suck the reservoir empty and refill with fresh AHC fluid.
  3. Bleed one corner at a time (front driver, front passenger, rear driver, rear passenger): open the bleeder until that corner bottoms out, close it, start the engine and let the truck re-level, then switch off.
  4. Repeat until clean fluid comes out of each bleeder, and never let the reservoir run low.
