Symptoms
A clunk from the front over bumps, or the diff visibly rocking when someone shifts between Park, Reverse and Drive. Oil or coolant dripping onto the old rubber bushings speeds up the wear.
The fix, step by step
- Support the front diff, disconnect the front driveshaft and CV axles as needed, and unbolt the three mounts: the crossmember bushing, the top mount and the side mount.
- Press out the old rubber and fit all three replacement bushings, since Outfitter Design sells them only as a kit so the mounts share the same hardness.
- Fix the oil leaks first if you can; one shop wouldn't install new bushings until the leaks were repaired.
Tools & part numbers
- Jack and transmission or diff jack
- press or bushing tools
- torque wrench. Outfitter Design's kit is UHMW (one crossmember bushing plus top and side mount bushings with steel sleeves).
