Sagging doors and hinge rust

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME 1–2 hours per door (estimate)COST Hinge pin $8.50; rear hinge seal $22.20; door seal $113.30 (Expedition Imports)

Symptoms

Doors that drop when opened and need a slam to latch, wind noise, and bubbling paint or rust around the hinges. Handsome Motors lists every door hinge as a G rust zone.

The fix, step by step

  1. The W461 uses the W460 body, so W460 door parts apply.
  2. Support the door, drive out the worn hinge pins and fit new ones.
  3. Swap the rear-door hinge seals while the hinges are accessible, using the original recessed seals rather than stick-on replacements.
  4. Treat any rust under them.
  5. Replace hardened door seals if water or wind gets past them.
