Water leaks (wiper spindles, windscreen, sunroof, heater plenum)

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME 1–2 hours for the wiper spindles. Most of a day for a windscreen reseal (estimate).COST Wiper shaft washer kit $38.10; windscreen gasket $173.80 (Expedition Imports)

Symptoms

Wet carpets, damp footwells, a musty smell, rust under the mats. Classic & Sports Car flags leaks from the wiper spindles, sunroof and heater plenum.

The fix, step by step

  1. Water-test with a hose and a helper inside to find the source.
  2. At the wiper spindles, replace the washers, nuts, seals and caps as a set.
  3. Clear the sunroof drains and check the plenum drains.
  4. A leak at the windscreen perimeter means taking the glass out to fit a new gasket.
  5. Inspect the frame for rust while it's out, because Handsome Motors lists the windshield gasket perimeter as a classic G rust spot.
  6. Dry the floor and replace missing body drain plugs.
