Suzuki Samurai biggest tire size: stock and lifted
The biggest tire owners run on a Suzuki SJ / Samurai at every lift height, with the trimming it takes, the wheel specs you need and the lift kits that get you there.
About a 215/75R15. On Zukiworld, owners say a 215/75R15 fits a stock Samurai with no modifications and 225s fit with a little effort. A 235/75R15 (about 29 inches) needs trimming and flattened inner fender seams, a 1.5–2 inch lift, or both. Stock tires were P205/70R15 according to the 1986 brochure.

Lift kits, wheels and tires for the Suzuki Samurai
An Old Man Emu spring-under kit adds about 2 inches for 29-inch tires. A spring-over (SPOA) conversion gives about 4.5 inches for 31s and is the classic Samurai trail build.
Lower transfer case gears are the Samurai's signature crawling mod. Sumo 4.16:1 gears give 84 percent more low-range reduction, and 6.4:1 gears give 181 percent. Brace the case mounts when you fit them.
Regear the 6 7/8-inch Suzuki differentials for bigger tires, then lock them.
Skid plates, sliders and tight-fitting bumpers protect a truck that spends its life on rocks.
Do you need to re-gear?
Trail Tough's advice is to do both, in that order of importance: choose ring-and-pinion gears to suit the tire size, then pick transfer case gears for crawling. Doing all the reduction in the transfer case overloads the U-joints, the transfer case mounts and the frame brackets.
Fitment comes from owners and specialists; wheel width, offset, trimming and bump stops change what fits. Check clearance at full lock and full flex before you buy. Some links are affiliate links.
