Toyota FJ Cruiser biggest tire size: stock and lifted
The biggest tire owners run on a Toyota FJ Cruiser at every lift height, with the trimming it takes, the wheel specs you need and the lift kits that get you there.
About a 285/70R17 (roughly 33 x 11 inches). One owner on stock suspension found his only rubbed the driver's-side mud flap under compression and fixed it by heating and flattening the flap. A long-time IH8MUD member's stricter view is that only a 31–32 inch tire clears in every situation; above that you need a body mount chop. Width and wheel backspacing matter as much as diameter, because the inside of the tire hits the front body mount at full lock.
Biggest Toyota FJ Cruiser tire at every lift
| LIFT | BIGGEST TIRE | WHAT IT TAKES |
|---|---|---|
| Stock | 285/70R17 (about 33 x 11 in) | One owner's only rubbed the driver's-side mud flap under compression, cured by heating and flattening it. A stricter IH8MUD view: only 31–32 in clears in every situation without a body mount chop. |
| 3 in (OME) | 285/70R17 | Slee told one owner this is the limit without body trimming; owners run it on factory wheels with no rub. ARB told another owner 285/75R17. |
| 3 in + body mount chop | 305/70R17 to 35 in | Owners run 305/70R17s and 34s with chopped mounts and plastic trim removed; one still rubs at full compression. A club pair on 35s touches only at extreme flex and full lock. Watch wheel backspacing: wide tires on factory wheels hit the upper control arm. |

Lift kits, wheels and tires for the Toyota FJ Cruiser
A 2.5–3 inch lift with better shocks clears 285/70R17s on factory wheels. Kits are split by 2007–09 and 2010–14 trucks, so buy for your year.
A body mount chop is what lets 33s and bigger live in an FJ's front wheel wells.
The factory rear locker is half the job. A Harrop E-Locker in the front diff and lower gears for bigger tires finish it.
Fitment comes from owners and specialists; wheel width, offset, trimming and bump stops change what fits. Check clearance at full lock and full flex before you buy. Some links are affiliate links.
