Upgrade the GVM for touring (Australia)

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME ≈ A day plus certificationCOST Parts plus fitting and engineering

Symptoms

A bull bar, winch, roof rack, fridge and two adults put the truck over its factory gross vehicle mass of 1,435–1,450 kg.

The fix, step by step

  1. Fit a federally approved GVM kit with matched springs and shocks.
  2. Ironman's kit raises GVM from 1,435 kg to 1,785 kg (axle limits 800 kg front, 1,100 kg rear) and lifts the truck 45 mm; TJM's XGS GVM+ goes to 1,800 kg.
  3. Fitted before registration, the truck gets a new compliance plate.
  4. Fitted afterward, a state-approved engineer must inspect it and issue a modification plate.
