Cure a flashing 4WD light (Super Select II)

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1–3 hours to diagnoseCOST Usually a solenoid, hose, switch or sensor

Symptoms

The 4WD indicator keeps flashing after you shift, or the front axle won't engage.

The fix, step by step

  1. CarsGuide's expert says it's 'likely to be a problem with the actuation system for the front diff' and lists the solenoids, vacuum line, actuator and diff sensor.
  2. Start with the cheap parts: check every vacuum hose to the front-diff actuator for cracks and loose ends, test the solenoids, then the actuator and sensor.
  3. Bring a Trailer's 2001 Limited had its transfer-case switches replaced, so check those and their wiring too.
  4. Afterwards, cycle through every mode on loose ground and use 4WD regularly.
