Replace radius-arm and panhard bushes (with caster correction)

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME ≈ Half a day to a dayCOST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

Clunks over bumps, vague steering, the shimmy above, or a lifted truck that wanders because the lift has reduced caster. One owner expects to replace the bushes, springs and clutch at around 200,000 km.

The fix, step by step

  1. Support the chassis with the axle on a jack, then unbolt one radius arm at a time so the axle stays located.
  2. Press out the old bushes and press in new ones.
  3. On lifted trucks, fit offset caster-correction bushes at the diff end to restore caster.
  4. Do the panhard-rod bushes at the same time, torque everything at ride height, and get an alignment.
