Re-set the rear brake proportioning valve after a lift

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1 hourCOST No parts needed

Symptoms

Weak rear braking or a changed pedal feel after lifting the truck, because the load-sensing proportioning valve (LSPV) now reads the truck as lightly loaded.

The fix, step by step

  1. An owner's measurement in Slee's guide: the LSPV contact point sits 38 mm from the pivot on a rod about 600 mm long, so movement at the rod end is about 1/15.75 of the movement at the valve body.
  2. For a 75 mm lift, lower the LSPV body by about 4.8 mm, then fine-tune with the rod-end adjuster (about ±6 mm).
  3. Mark the original position before you move anything.
