DIY repair · Jeep Wrangler YJ

Cut out and replace rusted floor pans

DIFFICULTY 4 / 5TIME ≈ A weekend per sideCOST Panels plus welding consumables, or body-shop labor

Symptoms

Soft, flaking or holed metal under the driver's carpet, water in the footwell, and rust around the seat and roll-bar mounts.

The fix, step by step

  1. Pull the carpet and padding: Quadratec notes trapped moisture under old padding is what rots YJ floors.
  2. Wire-brush the area to find good metal, mark a cut line inside the sound metal, and cut out the rot without cutting into the frame or body mounts.
  3. Trim the replacement pan to overlap or butt the opening, clamp it, tack it, then stitch-weld to avoid warping.
  4. Seam-seal and paint both sides, and don't put the old soggy padding back.
  5. Repair any body-mount or roll-bar mount areas properly, because those carry loads.
