Symptoms
A dropping coolant level, a sweet smell, or crusty residue around the turbo coolant lines or the coolant bottle hoses on a 2.0 turbo (the 4xe uses the same 2.0 turbo engine). Pickup Truck + SUV Talk lists a TSB for turbo coolant return line leaks.
The fix, step by step
- Pressure-test the cold system to find the leak.
- Drain enough coolant to get below the leak, replace the hose and its clips, refill with OAT coolant and bleed the loop.
- Remember the 2.0T has a separate intercooler loop, and that the 4xe also has high-voltage battery cooling.
- Leave anything orange-cabled to a trained technician.
- Check the dealer history too, since the TSB repair may already have been done.
Tools & part numbers
- Cooling-system pressure tester
- hose-clamp pliers
- drain pan
- Mopar OAT coolant.
