Stalling, hard starting or a diesel smell. Pickup Truck + SUV Talk lists recall 23V-263 for possible high-pressure fuel pump failure on some 2021–2023 EcoDiesels, where debris in the fuel system can cause a stall or a fuel leak.
The fix, step by step
- Confirm the recall has been done.
- Then treat the fuel filter as a wear item, because the 3.0's high-pressure pump hates water and dirt.
- Relieve the pressure, change the filter, prime the system as the service manual describes, and check for leaks.
- Use only ultra-low-sulfur diesel; the owner's-manual sheet allows biodiesel up to B5, or B7 with shorter service intervals.
