DIY repair · Jeep Grand Wagoneer (SJ)

Patch floors, rockers and lower quarters

DIFFICULTY 4 / 5TIME ≈ Several weekendsCOST Parts plus bodywork labor

Symptoms

Wet or crunchy carpet, holes under the driver's floor mat, bubbling under the woodgrain, rotten rockers that can let exhaust into the cabin.

The fix, step by step

  1. Pull the seats and carpet and wire-brush everything so you can see the full extent.
  2. Cut out rot back to clean metal, then trial-fit and weld in repair sections: front driver's and passenger's floor, rear sections, rockers, dog legs and lower quarters.
  3. Seam-seal and undercoat.
  4. On the outside, remove the woodgrain before welding and put down fresh vinyl afterward.
