Fix the Magnum V8's oil leaks

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5 (sender) · 3 / 5 (valve covers)TIME ≈ 1 hour (sender) · half a day (valve covers)COST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

Oil running down the back of the block, a flickering oil-pressure gauge, oil on the exhaust manifolds.

The fix, step by step

  1. OffroadXtreme names the rear main seal, valve cover gaskets and oil pressure sending unit as the V8's usual leaks.
  2. Check the sender first: it's cheap, and a leaking one also makes the gauge unreliable.
  3. Replace it, then reseal the valve covers with new gaskets, torquing the bolts evenly to the manual spec.
  4. A rear main leak on the V8 is a pan-off job like the six's.
