Land Rover LR3 years to avoid, and the best years to buy
Every Land Rover LR3 / Discovery 3 model year: which ones owners and specialists recommend, which have documented problems, which carry recalls, and what they sell for now.
Later is better, within reason. The 2005 LR3 has the most NHTSA complaints (96, against 8 for 2008 and 3 for 2009) and five recalls, and ReRev names 2005 the one to avoid and 2008–09 the most reliable. Raw complaint counts aren't adjusted for how many were sold, though, and PistonHeads still calls any phase-one Discovery 3 a high-risk purchase, so a thick service file beats a late build date.
