W461 G-Wagon biggest tire size: stock and lifted

The biggest tire owners run on a Mercedes-Benz G-Class W461 at every lift height, with the trimming it takes, the wheel specs you need and the lift kits that get you there.

The short answer

The G 300 CDI Professional comes on 265/75R16s, about 31.6 inches. On narrow-body Gs, an Expedition Portal owner runs 235/85R16s (about 32 inches) on the standard steel wheels, which is a sensible no-lift ceiling. Beyond that you're into lift springs: GwagenParts' ROGUE spring listing talks about 33- and 35-inch tires, and warns that bigger tires can trigger ABS and ESP warnings.

Mild Lift & Shocks

A little extra clearance and damping for trucks that carry weight on corrugations.

Driveline For Big Lifts

Lift a G more than about 4 inches and the front driveshaft angle causes binding and vibration. A double-cardan shaft fixes it.

Fitment comes from owners and specialists; wheel width, offset, trimming and bump stops change what fits. Check clearance at full lock and full flex before you buy. Some links are affiliate links.
