Steering damper & front-end wander

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME ≈ 1 hourCOST $300–800 (W463 typical)

Symptoms

Wander at highway speed, shake around 55–70 mph, vague on-centre feel, clunks over bumps.

The fix, step by step

  1. Replace the steering damper, check the drag link and tie-rod ends for play, then align.
  2. The 500 GE was sold on high-speed tyres, so it deserves a tight front end.
