2nd Gen Dodge Ramcharger biggest tire size: stock and lifted

The biggest tire owners run on a Dodge Ramcharger (1981–1993) at every lift height, with the trimming it takes, the wheel specs you need and the lift kits that get you there.

The short answer

About a 32 or a narrow 33. RamCharger Central's Elwenil says 32s fit most Ramchargers with a little rubbing or minor trimming, but the front springs tend to sag, so measure your truck. 33x10.50s on 8-inch-wide wheels are the usual safe choice. Owners disagree about 33x12.50s: one says they rub at full lock, while another ran them on every unlifted Ramcharger he owned. A member survey found 8-inch wheels work and 10-inch wheels rub. 31x10.50s clear with room to flex, and expect 33s to feel slow on stock gears.

New springs fix decades of sag. Skyjacker's 6-in kit for 1975–93 Ramchargers also needs a new steering or pitman arm, an adjustable drag link and longer brake lines, and the company says it fits up to 37x12.50 tires on wheels with 4 in of backspacing.

Gears & Traction

Owners say regearing is the most important mod for bigger tires. A limited slip or locker in the 9.25 rear is the next step.

Do you need to re-gear?

Almost certainly. RamCharger Central members say most trucks came with tall gears, often 3.21:1, and Dodge's 1990 brochure lists 3.21 as standard on the 4x4 with 3.55 optional. For 33s, owners want 4.10s. For 35s, they suggest 4.10 or 4.56, and say 4.88 is too much. Overdrive automatics suffer most with big tires on stock gears.
