Symptoms
Toe that won't stay in alignment, inside-edge tire wear, or a visibly bent tube after a hard hit. It's common on lifted trucks running 35s and up on the factory axle.
The fix, step by step
- Driving Line says the small tubes and C-ends on both the Dana 30 and the Rubicon's Dana 44 can bend with oversized tires, and points to EVO Manufacturing trusses as a preventive fix.
- Check the housing is straight first, because a truss locks in whatever shape it has.
- Strip the axle (or at least remove the brackets that are in the way), grind the tubes clean, tack the truss in place, then weld in short alternating stitches to limit heat distortion.
- Paint it and re-check the alignment.
- If the housing is already bent, Dynatrac and Currie sell replacement housings.
