Replace rotten floor pans and body mounts

DIFFICULTY 4 / 5TIME ≈ A weekend or more per sideCOST Panels are cheap; the labor is in the cutting and welding

Symptoms

Daylight through the floor, wet carpet, a tub that shifts on the frame, or body mounts you can push a screwdriver through. The buyer's guide points to the floor, rockers, rear corners and the area under the roll bar.

The fix, step by step

  1. Strip the interior and lift the carpet.
  2. Cut back to solid metal, then trim the replacement pan to overlap or butt-fit, and plug-weld it along the factory seams.
  3. Seam-seal and paint the inside and out.
  4. Replace the rubber body-mount bushings at the same time: loosen all six mount bolts, jack the tub a little at each mount, and swap the upper and lower bushings.
  5. If a frame-side mount bracket has rotted, weld in a new one before refitting the tub.
