VSC / TRAC light zero-point calibration

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME MinutesCOST Free

Symptoms

VSC, TRAC or TRAC OFF lights that stay on after a battery change, alignment, sensor work or a fluid service — with no actual fault.

The fix, step by step

  1. Park on a level surface with the wheels straight, and perform Toyota's yaw/deceleration sensor zero-point calibration by jumping the diagnostic connector terminals with a paper clip as shown in widely shared guides (4Runners.com members link a YouTube walkthrough).
  2. If the light persists, scan for real codes before chasing anything else.

Tools & part numbers

  • Paper clip
  • level ground
  • OBD-II scanner if it doesn't clear
